Early in 1919, a group of Huntsville businessmen, desiring to form a Kiwanis club in the city, began to recruit members, and submitted a application for formation of the Huntsville club to the Kiwanis parent organization. The application was approved and the club was officially organized on July 14, 1919, making the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville the fourth club in the State of Alabama. The first president, Clarendon Davis, presided over 53 charter members. Kiwanis, as a true service organization, became a reality at the fourth annual convention in Birmingham, Alabama, the same year that the charter was approved for the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville.
The Kiwanis Club of Huntsville is a proud member of Kiwanis International family that has been serving United States communities since 1915 and international communities since 1916. Today Kiwanis International has over 8,300 adult clubs and 7,900 youth clubs with a combined membership of over 702,000 members in more that 79 nations and geographical areas. The Kiwanis Club of Huntsville, part of the Great Alabama Kiwanis District, celebrated its Centennial on July 14, 2019. Our club together with the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Foundation focuses on children and youth in the Huntsville area.
The Kiwanis Mission & Vision
Kiwanis empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. Kiwanis strives to be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive. Our Kiwanis club fulfills the Kiwanis mission by serving our community through Kiwanis Community Service Projects
Kiwanis Service
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Members stage approximately 150,000 service projects and raise nearly US$100 million every year for communities, families and projects. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.
Our Kiwanis club focuses on changing the world by serving children, one child in our community at a time. To reach more people and have a greater service impact on their communities, many clubs sponsor a Kiwanis family club — K-Kids for primary school children; Builders Clubs for adolescents; Key Clubs for teens; Circle K clubs for university students and Aktion Clubs for adults living with disabilities.
